Storm Skimmer Mk. I

Originally a vehicle unique to Rylante's
Storm Corps, the Storm Skimmer has found it's way into Earth's fleet as
well. Skimmers are short-range, high performance aircraft equipped with
low level versions of the weather manipulation technology of it's mothercraft.
They are generally used to supplement and extend the effect of nearby
weatherships.
The Storm Skimmer features a highly customizable
module design. Various components can swap with each other depending on
pilot preference and mission requirements. Dozens of modules are available
with even more in development.
Examples of Storm Skimmer Mk.I modules are
listed below: |
Module set: Cloud Hyper (default) The
default configuration for modern Storm Skimmers. Cloud Hyper is a well rounded,
all-purpose, module used for standard Storm Corps activities. |
Module set: Lunar Blind
This
module focuses on durability and defensive systems, sacrificing large
amounts of maneuverability and speed. It is largely used in arctic regions
in conjunction with Blizzard Buster series weatherships. Lunar Blind features
an enclosed canopy design for it's pilot, a feature that inspired the
development of the Skimmer Mk. II.
|
Module set: Boost Shark
One
of the fastest and most maneuverable setups of it's kind, Boost Shark
is a Rylante developed module. This module's downside is a very low defensive
system. One direct hit of lightning will cause total weather shield burnout.
Flight control systems are also extremely unstable, causing most human
pilots to avoid Boost Shark. This module set is more attuned with duzand
reflexes, and rarely used by humans.
|
Module set: Mad Ivan
Earth's
version of Boost Shark with added defense, the Mad Ivan matches it's Rylantian
counterpart in almost every respect, except one: maintenance. Requiring
almost constant upkeep is pricey, and is the reason why Mad Ivan modules
are only available to select crew with supplemental funding from benefactors.
Control and performance of this module is more manageable for humans than
with Boost Shark.
